About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to process licensure actions for NC Pre-K, Developmental Day Preschool, and other grant initiative lead teachers to help them attain and maintain their professional educator’s license from the Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI). This position will provide technical assistance to all teachers enrolled with the EES Unit regarding all licensure requirements set forth by the NC State Board of Education, NCAC Chapter 9 Child Care Rule requirements and NC Pre-K Program policies and procedures. The Birth-Kindergarten Licensure Specialist will collaborate with Educator Preparation Programs (EPP), NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Licensure Section, NCDPI Nash Regional Assistance Licensing Center, the EES Offices at UNC-Charlotte and East Carolina University and other grant initiatives as assigned. This position also requires excellent attention to detail, accurate verbal and written abilities and timely processing of data entry related to teacher licensure requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in personnel, budgeting, research or administrative management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with attention to detail (for example, data entry and review of transcripts and other educational documentation).
  • Demonstrated work experience gathering and analyzing information and making an appropriate determination for next course of action.
  • Experience with early childhood education, NC Child Care Rules, NC Pre-K Program policies, and/or NC DPI Licensure.
  • Proficiency in using a desktop/laptop computer, multiple databases, and Microsoft software applications to carry out duties (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, NC Department of Public Instruction’s Human Resource Management System (HRMS), Licensure-Salary System, NC Educator Effectiveness System/Home Base, NCDPI Online Licensure System, Scribbles/Capture, WORKS, NC Pre-K PLAN, etc.).
  • Experience providing strong customer service and specialized assistance to internal and external stakeholders (for example, early education professionals, institutions of higher learning, and DCDEE staff).
