About The Position

Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City at Briarcliff is seeking a dependable, customer-focused Part-Time Bistro Cook to join our Food & Beverage team. The Bistro Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality food for our Bistro while maintaining exceptional food safety, cleanliness, and guest service standards. This position plays an important role in creating an outstanding dining experience for every guest.

Requirements

  • Previous restaurant, hotel, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing food in a fast-paced environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen safety practices.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion controls.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliable, dependable, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to prepare food according to recipes while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling procedures.
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, stovetops, microwaves, dishwashers, and commercial kitchen utensils.
  • Must obtain or possess a Kansas City, Missouri Food Handler Permit within 30 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and proper storage of food products.
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes, presentation standards, and quality expectations.
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in a timely manner while maintaining consistency and accuracy.
  • Understand and practice proper food cost control and portion management without compromising quality.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, prep areas, storage areas, and Bistro.
  • Follow all Marriott brand standards for food preparation, presentation, and service.
  • Accommodate guest dietary restrictions and special requests whenever possible.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal food handling, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor food quality and discard products that do not meet company standards.
  • Assist with inventory counts, ordering, receiving, rotation, and storage of food and beverage products.
  • Properly label, date, rotate, and store all food products using FIFO procedures.
  • Maintain daily temperature logs for refrigerators, freezers, and food holding equipment.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, grills, stovetops, microwaves, dishwashers, mixers, and other food service equipment.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained according to company standards.
  • Assist with breakfast, dinner, catering, and special events as business demands require.
  • Provide friendly, professional service while interacting with hotel guests.
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Follow all hotel emergency procedures and safety protocols.
  • Wear required uniforms and personal protective equipment when appropriate.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by management.
