About The Position

This Biorepository Specialist I is responsible for facilitating patient enrollment and carrying out day to day operations of the Brown Cancer Center (BCC) Biorepository as assigned by the Cancer Trials Program (CTP) leadership and BCC Senior Manager, Clinical Research Center. This position assists in the coordination of daily activities related to the collection, banking, and distribution of biospecimens in accordance with good laboratory practice, good clinical practice, and applicable policies and procedures. This position appears in approved clinics and demonstrates appropriate behavior in consenting eligible patients. This position will be responsible for collecting, processing and banking specimens. Techniques including tissue and blood processing are essential. The candidate is expected to offer suggestions for continuous improvement of biorepository practices and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Grade 4 (Hourly)

Nice To Haves

• Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience in specimen processing and/or clinical trials or biorepositories.
• Knowledge of human subject studies.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates patient enrollment by participating in BCC clinics, confirm eligibility of potential participants, and track and conduct follow-up visits where applicable.
• Collect episodic and longitudinal biospecimens, and relevant data in accordance with the specimen use protocols under the BCC Biorepository.
• Logs in biospecimens collected by self or internal colleagues or received from external partners. Distributes biospecimens in accordance with specimen use protocols, and relevant policies and procedures. Documents actions as required.
• Participates in Biorepository technology training and use. Enters relevant episodic and longitudinal clinical data in Biorepository database as assigned, accurately and timely.
• Interacts with human subjects and acts as a liaison to patients and families. Demonstrates appropriate behavior for participating in the BCC clinics, and with consenting cancer patients or healthy volunteers.
• Works as a collaborative team member with the BCC Biorepository Manager and other Biorepository staff members, in order to, for example, determine the dynamic scheduling of consented subjects for the BCC clinics, and liaise appropriately with physicians and partner hospital staff.
• Additional duties include monitoring laboratory equipment, ordering supplies needed for specimen processing, creating written procedures related to specimen processing and laboratory maintenance, leading assigned specimen use protocols, producing reports related to specific specimen use protocols, and obtaining, processing, and shipping biospecimens for specific clinical trials supported by the BCC CTP.
