The Biomechanist plays a key role within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists dedicated to analyzing and reconstructing injury-producing incidents to determine the mechanisms and contributing factors of injury. Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree required in Human Factors, Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, or safety engineering, required.
  • Strong foundation in injury biomechanics, human performance, ergonomics, and occupational safety analysis.
  • Experience with accident reconstruction, workplace injury investigation, and safety compliance evaluations.
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D motion analysis tools, with a willingness to learn additional modeling and simulation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert-level analysis, prepare detailed technical documentation, and present findings clearly to clients and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP) or equivalent credential, preferred.
  • Slip, trip, and fall analysis incorporating human factors, ergonomics, codes, and biomechanics.
  • Construction and industrial accident analysis, including fall protection and PPE assessment.
  • Workplace injury mechanism evaluation and prevention.
  • Product safety and usability assessments.
  • Evaluation of occupant kinematics and injury tolerance.
  • Ergonomic design and workplace safety consulting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic investigations related to vehicle crashes, slip, trip, and fall incidents, mechanical failures, and workplace accidents to assess human, environmental, and design factors.
  • Lead investigations of construction and industrial workplace accidents based on safety principles, human factors, proper equipment design, and biomechanics.
  • Evaluate and assess contributing elements of workplace incidents, including personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection systems, ladders, and injury mechanisms.
  • Apply ergonomic principles to identify workplace risk factors, evaluate human performance, and recommend injury-prevention strategies.
  • Analyze slip, trip, and fall mishaps utilizing expertise in building codes, human factors, ergonomics, and biomechanics.
  • Conduct biomechanical injury analyses to determine forces, motions, and tolerances involved in accident scenarios.
  • Perform human factors and ergonomics evaluations of products, environments, and systems to improve usability, reduce human error, and enhance safety.
  • Provide consulting expertise in product safety, including hazard analysis, guarding, and the design and effectiveness of warnings and instructions.
  • Conduct or assist with static and dynamic testing related to material performance, product design, and human response.
  • Prepare clear, well-supported reports of findings suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences and provide expert testimony during depositions and trials when required.
  • Present technical and educational materials to clients and at professional conferences.
  • Maintain expertise through continued professional education, research, and publication.
