About The Position

Booz Allen is seeking a highly experienced, strategic, and hands-on Biomanufacturing and Chemical Separations Engineer to manage and operate a new, state-of-the-art pilot-scale facility. The facility is built and equipped, and the engineer will bring the process online and oversee a team designing, planning, and executing large-volume downstream engineering runs. The role integrates with a client research and pilot-scale facility to develop and optimize downstream processes for recovery and purification of microbially produced molecules and metabolites. The engineer will analyze product-isolation methods, assess their feasibility for scale-up, and execute them at pilot scale. The position also connects technical teams, external stakeholders, and commercial transition partners to help meet facility performance metrics and enable efficient technology transfer to commercial scale. It uses process-improvement frameworks to deliver consistent quantitative or qualitative results.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry and 8 or more years of experience in biomanufacturing or process development for downstream processing and chemical separations; alternatively, a doctorate degree and 6 or more years of such experience.
  • Experience operating in hazardous locations.
  • Experience organizing, storing, retrieving, compiling, and analyzing data to respond to detailed information requests.
  • Experience developing and implementing analytical chemistry methods, including HPLC, GC/MS, or NMR.
  • Experience with pilot-scale or larger chemical processing techniques, such as distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, centrifugation, ultrafiltration, chromatography, and other downstream unit operations.
  • Experience reviewing and evaluating bench-scale processes for scale-up feasibility in industrial fermentation, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or biomanufacturing operations.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams, for collaboration and technical reports.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulations such as NFPA, ASTM, and ANSI.
  • Ability to build trust and value-based relationships with team members and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to lead a team in designing, planning, and executing pilot-scale experiments and chemical separations processes.
  • Creative and innovative approach with an improvement- and process-based mindset.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with bioindustrial manufacturing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, or biotech companies.
  • Experience with Department of Defense or Army procedures, proposal writing, or reporting requirements.
  • Experience using AI tools for data analysis, automation, or documentation to improve workflow and process reproducibility.
  • Ability to translate and document business needs, processes, and procedures into detailed user stories, process charts, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Existing Secret clearance.
  • Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related Science field.
