Biology/Biochemsitry Co-Op

Flagship Pioneering Co-Op ProgramCambridge, MA
1d$25 - $35

About The Position

What if… you could help build a platform that reveals the biological state of any cell in the human body from a simple blood draw? Flagship Labs 103 (FL103), a Flagship Pioneering-backed biotechnology company, is developing technologies to decode cellular dynamics through extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs carry rich molecular information from their cells of origin and circulate throughout the body, offering an unprecedented opportunity to non-invasively monitor tissue biology. We are seeking a motivated and curious Co-op student to join our scientific team. This role will provide hands-on experience working in an early-stage biotechnology company developing novel biological measurement technologies. The Co-op will support experiments focused on extracellular vesicle biology, molecular assays, and platform development while gaining exposure to the process of building a new biotechnology platform.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • Interest in learning laboratory techniques related to molecular biology and cell biology.
  • Basic laboratory skills (pipetting, solution preparation, and experimental documentation).
  • Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for learning new techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mammalian cell culture.
  • Familiarity with molecular or immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry).
  • Coursework or research experience in cell biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry.
  • Interest in extracellular vesicle biology, biomarker discovery, or diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist scientists in executing laboratory experiments to support FL103’s platform development and research programs.
  • Perform molecular and immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, qPCR, Western blot, and related techniques) under guidance from team members.
  • Support mammalian cell culture and preparation of biological samples for EV analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of experimental protocols and laboratory workflows.
  • Maintain clear documentation of experiments in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Present results and experimental updates in team meetings.
  • Support general laboratory operations including organization, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance.

Benefits

  • This role is a short-term engagement that is not eligible for health and welfare benefits.
  • Retirement benefits may be available after completing a set number of hours.
  • The pay range for this role is $25 - $35 per hour.
