About The Position

Under the close supervision of a Principal Biologist or other supervisory official in a state department or local government agency, as a trainee and productive worker, works in a specialized field requiring the application of biological principles; learns to perform the various research and testing activities of the assigned area; does other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences.
  • All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship, and Immigration Services regulations. NOTE: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Wildlife Conservation or Management; familiarity with and emphasis in game species identification, biology, habitat requirements, and management approaches.
  • Experience with wildlife survey techniques, handling, and/or bird-banding.
  • Strong computer, GIS, and statistical skills, as well as interpersonal and public speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys of upland game, turkey, and migratory birds, and their habitats following accepted protocols.
  • Provide assistance in wildlife control response situations as needed.
  • Collect biological samples and analyze data for population trends, management needs, and research including disease.
  • Assist in the preparation of related reports and management plans.
  • Provide information to the public and other interested parties.
  • Work in cooperation with local, state & Federal Government agencies.
