About The Position

The Biological Scientist I will assist laboratory staff in the conduct of research under the supervision of postdocs or the principal investigator. Research will include collection of data using basic molecular procedures (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, molecular cloning, sequencing) and performing gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR). The individual will also serve as administrative support for the laboratory, managing the day-to-day operations of the zebrafish colony, ordering and tracking supplies, ensuring maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, organizing SOPs, assuring regulatory compliance, and updating records. Additionally, this role involves training graduate and undergraduate researchers on research methods, lab safety, and SOPs, and interacting positively with a multi-disciplinary lab environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.
  • Ability to execute an original research project.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability.

  • Experience with statistical programs and/or Excel.
  • Some previous research experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory staff in the conduct of research under the supervision of postdocs or the principal investigator.
  • Collect data using basic molecular procedures (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, molecular cloning, sequencing).
  • Perform gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR).
  • Participate in group meetings and individual meetings with the principal investigator to discuss research results.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the zebrafish colony.
  • Order and track receipt of supplies.
  • Ensure maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Organize SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Assure regulatory compliance.
  • Update records.
  • Interact positively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research associates, and collaborators in a multi-disciplinary lab environment.
  • Train graduate and undergraduate researchers on research methods, lab safety, and SOPs.
