About The Position

The Biological Scientist I will assist laboratory staff in the conduct of research under the supervision of postdocs or the principal investigator. Research will include data collection using basic molecular procedures such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, molecular cloning, and sequencing, as well as performing gene expression analysis (qRT-PCR). The role also involves participating in group and individual meetings with the principal investigator to discuss research results. Additionally, this individual will provide administrative support for the laboratory, managing daily operations of the zebrafish colony, ordering and tracking supplies, ensuring equipment maintenance and calibration, organizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assuring regulatory compliance, and updating records. The position requires working productively in a multi-disciplinary lab environment and training undergraduate and graduate researchers in research methods, lab safety, and SOPs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.
  • Ability to execute an original research project.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with statistical programs and/or Excel.
  • Some previous research experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory staff in the conduct of research under the supervision of postdocs or the principal investigator.

  • Work productively in a multi-disciplinary lab environment by interacting positively with undergraduate students, graduate students, research associates, and collaborators.
  • Train undergraduate students, graduate students, research associates, and collaborators in the laboratory on research methods, lab safety, SOPs.
