About The Position

Smurfit Westrock is hiring a Bindery Operator to perform general hand and table work, load and unload finishing machines, pack finished products, and operate small finishing machines. The role includes performing periodic quality checks and maintaining product quality, accuracy, and a clean work environment. The operator follows job tickets, standard operating procedures, safety rules, and company policies, and may train new employees and perform minor machine maintenance. The position is located in Lansing, Michigan, and is full-time.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to interact with automated machinery.
• Ability to write and speak simple sentences.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to count and measure, and perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to maintain good attendance.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.
• Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Operate small finishing machines and machine-driven processes, including card wrappers and pixie strippers.
• Load and unload finishing machines and pack finished products.
• Perform hand stripping and general table work.
• Perform periodic quality checks and maintain product quality.
• Train new employees on all aspects of the job.
• Operate printing computers to produce carton labels.
• Read and follow standard operating procedures and job-ticket directions.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Perform minor maintenance on small machines.
• Count product to ensure accuracy and distinguish colors for quality checks.
• Work safely and efficiently in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
