Requirements

• High school or equivalent preferred.
• Courses in medical and terminology preferred.
• One year of medical billing experience preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
• Computer skills required.
• Commitment to supporting a safe and respectful environment is required.

Nice To Haves

• Athena or NexGen system a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Research and resolve claim denials for multiple payers.
• Monitor claims for non-payment or delayed payments.
• Identify and report trends to expedite claims processing and reduce denial rates.
• Audit accounts for payment accuracy per contracts.
• Submit appeals to third party payers.
• Process patient and third-party payments and refunds.
• Process bad debt adjustments according to agency policy.
• Monitor claims through a clearinghouse, depending on the practice management system.
• Maintain knowledge of billing policies and procedures and payer specific billing guidelines.
• Ensure a high level of customer service by communicating with patients, coworkers, providers and third-party representatives in a professional manner.
• Perform other duties assigned, including supporting the CHAS Health Mission and Core Values.
