About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Billing/Coding Clerk to join our team! An Outpatient Coder is an individual who assigns a numeric or an alphanumeric classification to identify ICD-10 diagnoses and procedures and applies documentation guidelines to translate diagnosis and procedural phrases. These codes are assigned based upon a review of the source document (medical record). The coder shall always show cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, physicians, and their staff along with all other departments and hospital personnel. Files all insurance according to State and Federal guidelines. Working knowledge of disease processes; Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II coding principles and guidelines; General knowledge of DRG classification and reimbursement structures; Effective written and verbal communication skills; Experience with encoders and computerized abstracting systems; Organizational skills for initiation and maintenance of efficient work flow; Capacity to work independently; Good visual acuity and ability to sit for extended periods of time. Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of CCS or CPC credentials required.
  • One year or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • RHIA or RHIT recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews charts thoroughly to ascertain accurate diagnoses/procedures in a timely manner.
  • Contacts responsible physician in professional manner if diagnosis is not available on chart.
  • Coder’s diagnoses and procedure on clinical summary agree with physician’s preference 100% of the time.
  • Refers chart to supervisor if there is a question regarding the diagnosis code.
  • Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.
  • Codes all diagnoses/procedures in accordance to ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and/or HCPCS Level II coding principles and guidelines.
  • Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment system.
  • Must be familiar with all charting and coding requirements.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
