About The Position

Orange County Registrar of Voters (ROV) is seeking qualified candidates for Bilingual Translation Specialist/Proofer Election Representative (Extra Help) positions. These are temporary/seasonal roles, not permanent. The positions will often require overtime, including evenings and weekends. The Registrar of Voters is responsible for conducting elections, verifying petitions, and maintaining voter records for the County of Orange, serving 1.9 million registered voters. The department has 54 full-time employees and numerous extra help employees, supporting election-related positions that reflect Orange County's diverse population. The ROV aims to be a leader in election management, focusing on innovation and customer service, and values creativity, originality, initiative, and dedication to customer service.

Requirements

  • High level of language proficiency to read, write, and speak in Chinese, Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a wide array of tasks.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Technical Knowledge | Office Experience: Utilizing Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint; maintaining and managing pertinent information by creating documents, spreadsheets, and other related documents; proficiency in current computer systems and programs, modern office practices and procedures, and operation of equipment.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Working well in a team environment, consistently demonstrating a positive attitude, exhibiting a strong work ethic, working independently, demonstrating flexibility and ability to adapt to fast-changing environments and assignments.
  • Vision sufficient to read standard text, fine print, various handwritings, and view a computer monitor.
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably in person and over the phone.
  • Independent body mobility sufficient to stand, sit, walk, stoop, and bend routinely to perform daily tasks.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods.

  • All candidates considered for this position will be required to successfully pass a background check consisting of employment history, professional references, and criminal check.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C, and a clean driving record while employed in this classification might be required by the date of appointment.
  • A driving records check consisting of a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) check will be conducted to verify the clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Translate and proof documents and web materials including voter registration information, letters, correspondence to bilingual voters, notice of elections, ballot titles, pamphlet information, candidate statements, ballot measures, resolutions, and related materials.
  • Review, edit, and proofread all translated documents produced by translation service providers and others for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Assist in staffing community engagement events, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Assist in providing language support to voters via video conferencing, phone, and chat services.
  • Assist in answering general voter questions and inquiries while staffing the public phone.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
