About The Position

iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach. The Bilingual Student Support Specialist plays a critical role in advancing student achievement by providing targeted academic intervention, monitoring student progress, supporting engagement initiatives, and collaborating with families and staff to ensure equitable access to instruction. This role bridges social-emotional learning with structured academic intervention to ensure students remain on track for graduation.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting students in academic intervention or tutoring environments preferred.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple student caseloads.
  • Ability to analyze student data and develop responsive intervention plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Experience with student information systems and virtual learning platforms preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-directed while comfortable working collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to travel to events and testing sites as needed.
  • Bilingual required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted academic support to students identified through data analysis, teacher referral, MTSS processes, or engagement metrics.
  • Deliver structured one-on-one and small group academic intervention sessions focused on credit recovery, skill remediation (reading, writing, math), assignment completion, executive functioning skills (organization, time management, goal setting), and test-taking strategies.
  • Assist students in navigating curriculum platforms and digital learning tools.
  • Develop, monitor, and support implementation of Back on Track Plans, academic improvement plans, and intervention contracts.
  • Progress monitor students receiving intervention services and adjust supports based on data.
  • Review grades, attendance, benchmark data (including STAR 360), and assessment results to proactively identify students at risk.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to align intervention strategies with classroom instruction.
  • Support students in accessing tutoring, supplemental resources, and accommodations.
  • Assist students in understanding and tracking graduation requirements and credit progress.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of interventions, contacts, and student progress.
  • Conduct assemblies, small group sessions, and one-on-one sessions focused on state testing preparation and assessment strategies.
  • Assist in proctoring STAR 360 assessments and analyze results to guide intervention planning.
  • Proctor state and federal assessments in person, as assigned.
  • Work with the Student Engagement Administrator to implement social-emotional learning initiatives, 7 Mindsets programming, and student engagement campaigns.
  • Host weekly Continuing Care group sessions to provide students with ongoing academic and light-touch social-emotional support.
  • Support students in self-advocacy and communication with teachers.
  • Support improvement of school-wide engagement initiatives.
  • Provide bilingual communication and translation services when requested.
  • Conduct outreach to families of at-risk students to increase engagement and academic accountability.
  • Participate in LCAP outreach and community involvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders to expand academic support resources.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of professional development related to student engagement, intervention strategies, and academic support systems.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and trainings as required.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, orientations, and initiatives as assigned.
  • Support school Esports Program and other engagement-based extracurricular initiatives.
  • Maintain organized student records and documentation aligned with compliance standards.
  • Utilize data systems and reporting tools to track intervention outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
