This position is responsible for assisting certificated staff by performing instructional support tasks in both English and Spanish related to the students' educational development within the total school environment and by being a positive role model for students. The role involves working with students under the direction of certificated teachers to facilitate academic skills and oral language development, learning instructional techniques, and independently carrying out instructional programs. The para-educator will provide instruction in both English and Spanish, offer small-group intervention and targeted academic support in literacy and mathematics, and assist in the development and use of teaching aids and materials. Collaboration with classroom teachers is essential, as is possessing an understanding of elementary mathematics concepts or the ability to acquire such knowledge. The role also includes assisting in assessing students, monitoring student progress, assisting with record keeping, and promoting positive public relations.
