Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), a non-profit law firm, is hiring two Outreach Workers to support the attorneys by conducting outreach to agricultural workers and their families throughout Ohio. Each year more than 30,000 agricultural workers and family members work in Ohio. They work with many hand-harvest crops, including cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and peppers. They also work in packing sheds, grading stations, nurseries, greenhouses, and food processing plants. Agricultural workers sometimes experience legal problems arising from violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, and other federal and state protective statutes. Others encounter legal problems with housing, family law, domestic violence, sexual harassment, government benefits, education, immigration, tax, environmental hazards and other issues.
