About The Position

The Mental Health Therapist provides individual and family therapy to children and their families primarily in an office setting, but may include a school setting. They may also provide case management and consultation with PCPs, schools, ODHS Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency programs, and other community partners. Clients are self-referred or referred through partnerships with local schools/Head Starts, primary care physicians, hospitals, or ODHS Child Welfare or Self Sufficiency. Options accepts both commercial insurance and Oregon Health Plan. The Early Childhood Therapist specializes in providing therapeutic services to children primarily ages 5 and under and their families; however, their caseload may include other ages.

Requirements

  • Master’s or doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
  • Must be able to qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and be eligible for registered internship or licensure in the State of Oregon.
  • Knowledge and/or experience providing mental health services, including assessment and diagnosis, to children and families.
  • Ability to incorporate child-based therapies into treatment is required, including comfort with treatment for toddlers through school age.
  • Must be computer proficient.
  • Must have respectful, open, accepting attitude toward clients and their families.
  • Must be able to pass a ODHS background check.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is required.
  • Registration with the appropriate board per master’s degree is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in play therapy, sand tray, or other child-based therapies.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma and experience working with individuals and families from a systemic lens.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and the role of feedback informed treatment.
  • Experience with record keeping software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interview client to obtain information concerning family history or other assessment information
  • Conduct mental health assessments for children, including DSM-V-TR diagnosis
  • Provide therapy and case management services in the office or through telehealth
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, defining specific goals and objectives, and revise as needed
  • Provide culturally responsive behavioral health services in both English and Spanish, including assessments, therapy, documentation, and communication with clients, families, and community partners
  • Maintain accurate and current client records, including timely Service Plans, authorization requests, and service notes within the electronic client record (ECR), and sign documents to meet federal and state regulatory standards
  • Coordinate access and provision of services from multiple agencies, including establishing service linkages, advocating for service needs, and obtaining entitlements based on mental or emotional disability
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses to coordinate treatment
  • Coordinate case activities with treatment team partners including, when applicable, ODHS/Child Welfare, primary care physicians, schools, and others
  • Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate
  • Make requests for authorization for services to Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) as required
  • Coordinate with ODHS and CCOs regarding referrals as directed
  • Complete and pass a Spanish Listening and Speaking Test with a score of 10 during onboarding
  • Attend and participate in regular clinical supervision (minimum of two times a month for licensed providers) and team meetings, as directed
  • Remain current on relevant research and evidenced based practices
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect
  • Maintain client confidentiality according to state guidelines
