About The Position

The Bilingual Labor Law Investigator position with the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance offers an opportunity to significantly impact workplaces throughout Pennsylvania. This role is crucial in monitoring and enforcing state laws designed to protect workers' rights. Investigators are responsible for informing employees and employers about labor laws, conducting inspections and investigations, mediating disputes, and initiating legal action against employers for violations that cannot be resolved through administrative means. This position is part of a team dedicated to upholding integrity and public service.

Requirements

• Fluency in speaking and writing Spanish.
• Possession and maintenance of federally compliant identification (e.g., U.S. Passport, REAL ID, Military ID).
• Residency within or willingness to relocate to the geographic region covered by the Philadelphia District Office by the date of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to the values and ethics of the Department of Labor & Industry.
• Demonstrated ability to work with professionalism, discretion, and a strong work ethic.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Initiative and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.
• Two years of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and an associate's degree in a related field; OR
• One year of technical investigative or construction and trades experience and a bachelor’s degree; OR
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in conducting investigations or working in construction and trades.
• Experience in business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution.
• An associate's degree or higher in a field related to investigative work, construction and trades, business management, financial services, accounting, or conflict resolution.
• Experience enforcing labor standards or labor and employment laws.
• Experience testifying at administrative or court hearings.

Responsibilities

• Examine incoming complaints and determine the appropriate next steps for investigation.
• Analyze payroll documents, timecards, and other records to ensure compliance with labor laws.
• Conduct interviews with employees, employers, and other relevant parties to gather detailed case information.
• Visit business locations or project sites to conduct inspections and identify potential violations related to minors or workplace standards.
• Compile and present reports, narratives, evidence, and testimony to support legal proceedings.
• Communicate labor law requirements clearly to employees, contractors, and officials through investigations and public education initiatives.
