About The Position

The City and County of Denver Human Services (DHS) is seeking a visionary Bilingual Intake Social Caseworker Supervisor to manage Social Caseworkers in the Intake Section. This section is responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse/neglect for children aged 0-18 in a fast-paced environment. The role requires full fluency in English and Spanish to support staff, engage clients, and ensure high-quality service delivery. The supervisor will coach, lead, and mentor staff, and be responsible for case development, planning, and assignment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, flexibility, and experience empowering staff and managing a diverse workforce, prioritizing the best interests of the child while upholding high standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete the bilingual stipend test process.
  • Full fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read, and write fluently in both English and Spanish.
  • Prior experience in Intake within Child Welfare.
  • Familiarity with Differential Response and Partnering for Safety practices.
  • Experience leading, supervising, and/or coordinating staff teams.
  • Strong understanding of the immigrant community and its unique needs.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a higher education institution with coursework related to the job responsibilities of child welfare or adult protective services social caseworker. Coursework examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, social work, sociology, psychology, psychiatry, gerontology, nursing, special education, guidance and counseling, criminal justice, or other human behavioral sciences or therapeutic techniques.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English and second language.
  • Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application.
  • Requires certification as a social case worker supervisor in Child Welfare or Adult Protective Services in accordance with CDHS regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all competencies in both English and Spanish.
  • Plan, assign, and review the activities of social caseworkers performing case management functions and recommend changes in practices and procedures to increase operating efficiency and expedite workflow.
  • Participate in the development of long-range and short-term plans and goals for the assigned area, establish and/or monitor current methods and policies, and keep management-level personnel abreast of trends and issues in the field and department.
  • Screen assessments initially to determine the level of risk to individuals/families and eligibility for services/programs, assign assessments, meet with social caseworkers to discuss the status of assessments, problems encountered, basis for actions, and alternative solutions, review and discuss the progress of assessments and worker's reports, and provide technical guidance and direction in unusual and non-standard situations.
  • Train social caseworkers in social work techniques and methodologies, orient workers with appropriate laws, policies, regulations, and procedures, and ensure that work conforms to standards, regulations, and laws of state and federal agencies.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with public and private community-based services providers and professional and community groups to exchange information, resolve concerns/complaints, and develop and maximize available resources.
  • Ensure that staff prepares comprehensive records, reports, and documentation that complies with state and federal standards and requirements.
  • Prepare, support, and coach staff who testify in court proceedings and provide expert testimony.
  • Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures and determine work priorities.
  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
  • Develop the performance enhancement plan, document performance, provide performance feedback, and formally evaluate the work of employees.
  • Respond to formal and informal employee grievances and prepare written responses.
  • Document causes for disciplinary action and initiate letters of reprimand and formal recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
