About The Position

Project Eagle is an early childhood program focused on preparing children, engaging families, and promoting excellence for children and families in Kansas City, Kansas. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five through a variety of programs, the largest being Early Head Start. Project Eagle is also a member of the Educare Learning Network, part of a national initiative that serves as a platform for broader change, inspiring high-quality programs in communities, improving public policies within each state, and demonstrating a comprehensive approach to the first five years of life and learning. The Bilingual Family Support Coordinator will develop and maintain relationships with families enrolled in Project Eagle programs and ensure that they receive comprehensive services throughout their participation in the program. Comprehensive services include health and social services, disabilities, early childhood education and care services, and a range of parent development training opportunities. The Family Support Coordinator is also responsible for developing relationships with community-based organizations that provide other needed services to families. The Family Support Coordinator will have the responsibility for approximately 35-40 children and their families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling or closely related field
  • Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or closely related filed, plus 2 years relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in a related field and willingness to complete a Family Development Credential (FDC) within 18 months.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience teaching child development and parenting skills to adults.
  • Efficient experience delivering family support services.
  • Experience working with children ages birth to five years of age.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or graduate level course work in any of the required discipline areas.
  • Two years of successful experience using a strengths-based family support approach teaching and/or delivering services in the following areas: prenatal education, early childhood education, and parenting education.
  • Experience delivering home-based services.
  • Knowledge of Part B/Part C Services as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience in completing comprehensive assessments covering all areas affecting family functioning.
  • Experience writing family goals or Individualized Family Partnership Agreements
  • Knowledge of resources in Wyandotte County as demonstrated by application materials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain meaningful, productive relationships with families.
  • Assist parents with understanding and implementing the Family Partnership Agreement in order to encourage and promote their overall development including achievement of self-sufficiency as well as positive developmental outcomes for their children.
  • Identify and respond to the unique life experiences of Project Eagle participants.
  • Complete home visits according to family need, program schedule, policies and procedures.
  • Refer and link children and parents to needed services.
  • Collaborate with Education Staff to facilitate children's transitions.
  • Communicate with education and care staff regarding infant/child's progress in the classroom.
  • Schedule and attend two parent-teacher conferences and two home visits per year with each assigned child’s primary care teacher.
  • Develop rapport and trust with parent(s) and primary family members.
  • Ensure participation in parent involvement activities per Head Start Performance Standards including assisting with organizing and providing ongoing support to Parent Committees.
  • Coordinate with Teachers to plan and conduct monthly classroom Parent Meetings with Teachers and parents.
  • Develop and maintain current Individual Family Partnership Agreements for all families on caseload, establishing goals, reporting outcomes, brokering and referring for services, monitoring progress.
  • Administer screenings and assessments as required.
  • Help families identify and access needed resources including health, mental health, social services, education, transportation, and job training.
  • Advocate and make referrals for families in need of community resources.
  • Provides follow-up and documentation of each service rendered.
  • Coordinate/provide training for parents in all aspects of family support services.
  • Approach difficult family and individual issues in a positive manner that leads to growth.
  • Promptly document all interventions with families and notify supervisor immediately of any unusual or at-risk situations.
  • Participate in Child and Family Review, Parent-Teacher Conferences and IEP and IFSP staffings as required.
  • Participate in all research efforts as required by Educare Kansas City.
  • Participate in staff development activities and demonstrate increased knowledge, understanding and ability to transfer knowledge to practice with families.
  • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and various conferences as requested.
