About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a Bilingual Elementary Math & ELA Tutor (Spanish) to work with small groups of elementary school students (Kindergarten through 6th grade) who are struggling with fundamental ELA and math skills. The tutoring will take place at an elementary school in Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Services can be provided either within the classroom (push-in) or outside the classroom (pull-out), and tutors must be flexible with both settings. The role involves taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about teaching, learning, and making a positive impact on urban, working-class youth.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is REQUIRED.
• Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring, either within a school environment or another educational setting.
• Mastery of elementary school ELA and math concepts and skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
• Display of genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
• Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
• Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
• Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of 1-4 elementary school students (K-6th grade) on ELA and math skills.
• Provide services within the classroom (push-in) or outside the classroom (pull-out).
• Take daily attendance.
• Monitor student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).
