About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a small group Math and English Language Arts tutor to work with small groups of elementary or middle school students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Each small group consists of 1-4 students who have been identified as struggling with fundamental math & ELA skills. Students are from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The tutor will work with each group several times throughout the week at an elementary or middle school in Dayton, OH 45416. Groups will take place within the classroom (push-in services) or outside of the classroom (pull-out services). Tutors should be flexible and comfortable with both settings. Each tutor will be given the responsibility of taking daily attendance and monitoring student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field.
• At least one year of demonstrated experience in teaching or tutoring, either within a school environment or another educational setting.
• Mastery of elementary or middle school math and ELA concepts and skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
• Genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
• Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
• Proficiency in communication skills.
• Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
• Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of 1-4 elementary or middle school students.
• Provide tutoring in Math and English Language Arts.
• Work with students struggling with fundamental math & ELA skills.
• Work with students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
• Conduct sessions within the classroom (push-in) or outside the classroom (pull-out).
