About The Position

Join Savio House’s Child First team. Child First is an evidence-based, two-generation intervention for vulnerable young children from prenatal through age five and their families. It provides intensive, home-based services intended to decrease serious mental health problems, developmental and learning disabilities, and abuse and neglect. The model includes a psychotherapeutic dyadic intervention to strengthen the parent-child relationship and care coordination to connect families with needed services and supports. The Child First Mental Health and Developmental Clinician partners with a Family Support Partner to engage families referred to the home-based intervention. The role focuses on strengthening the caregiver-child relationship as a protective buffer to stress and as a foundation for children’s emotional, language, and cognitive growth. The Clinician uses trauma-informed CPP, a relationship-based, dyadic parent-child treatment model focused on the young child’s primary attachment relationships. Through supportive, reflective, and exploratory engagement with caregivers and children, the Clinician fosters a protective, nurturing, and responsive parent-child relationship. The therapeutic intervention helps caregivers understand typical developmental challenges and expectations, reflect on the meaning and feelings motivating a child’s behavior, strengthen problem-solving, and understand how parental feelings and history relate to their responses to the child. The Clinician also consults with teachers in early care and education settings as needed.
