About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a Bilingual Career Specialist (Spanish/English) to support students in identifying and achieving their career goals. This role provides comprehensive career development services, including career advising, job search assistance, internship coordination, and career readiness services to prospective students, current students, and alumni. The specialist will collaborate with faculty, staff, employers, and community partners to create opportunities that support students' academic and employment outcomes. This position is located at PCC’s Sylvania campus, with some travel to the Southeast campus and the option for occasional remote work. PCC currently limits employment to individuals residing in Oregon and Washington, and employment offers are contingent upon establishing residence in these states. PCC also provides reasonable accommodation for applicants requiring assistance during the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Proficient/Native Spanish speaker
  • 2 years of full time work experience in one of the following areas: Career counseling and advising high school students, college level students, or other adults populations; OR 2 years of full time graduate school coursework AND 1 year of experience in the areas referenced above.
  • 1 year of demonstrable experience developing meaningful, outcomes driven relationships with employers; OR 1 year of demonstrable experience developing local community partnerships.
  • 1 year of experience in an office setting, independently completing multiple short term and long term tasks, priorities, and projects.
  • A clear and working understanding of issues of immigration, social justice, racism, oppression and bias, and the subsequent impact of these phenomena on students ability to successfully access paying job opportunities and careers.
  • Ability to provide career services in Spanish with a culturally-specific lens and approach.
  • Ability to translate documents and information between Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one career guidance to prospective and current students and alumni regarding career exploration, job search strategies, résumé writing, interviewing, and professional networking.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments (e.g., Focus 2).
  • Offer Spanish/English translation services for the Career Services district for print and digital materials, student appointments and students’ professional documents.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops, classroom presentations, and career development events on topics such as job search strategies, career planning, résumé writing, and LinkedIn profile development.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to integrate career readiness into curriculum and co-curricular programs.
  • Participate in academic departmental meetings and committee meetings to remain knowledgeable about curriculum and programmatic changes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job and internship opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor market trends and workforce development initiatives relevant to students' career paths.
  • Assist with coordinating on-campus recruiting events, career fairs, employer panels, and other career-related programming.
  • Track student interactions and outcomes using career services management platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate, Symplicity, Workday, G-Suite, or similar).
  • Support underrepresented, nontraditional, and first-generation students with career development resources and equity-focused advising.
  • Build relationships with campus partners and departments, such as Worksource, to ensure students are able to access basic needs.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain awareness of best practices in career services and higher education.
  • Manage 2-3 CTE programs located at the PCC Sylvania Campus and/or CTE programs located remotely or across multiple PCC campuses.
  • Communicate with Career Services colleagues across the district to ensure updates regarding work location, hours, appointment load, CTE programs, and other pertinent information is shared in a timely and collegial manner.
