About The Position

This role, a BH Technical Partner, involves delivering direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, adhering to established policies and standards. Key aspects include assisting patients with daily living activities, collecting and reporting patient data, and making observations of patient behaviors. The position also contributes to patient education, planning and facilitating patient activities, and documenting observations from group sessions. Collaboration with other healthcare providers is essential to ensure continuous patient care and effective communication of patient information. The role requires leadership, problem-solving, and adherence to the chain of command, including precepting new hires. Compliance with regulatory agencies, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring patient safety through proper identification, specimen handling, and restraint protocols are critical. Furthermore, the BH Technical Partner must understand and utilize non-violent crisis intervention principles, assist in managing agitated patients, and be knowledgeable about MH/MR commitment processes and patient rights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Behavioral management Group leader.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program required or obtain within orientation period (five (5) days from hire).
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Nurse Aide or comparable program (such as EMT, Medical Assistant, nursing student with at least one semester of clinical or prior experience in related field).
  • Computer skills, Phlebotomy, EKG experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care.
  • Perform and/or assist with patient care needs as directed.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, shaving, feeding, ambulating, enemas, oral hygiene, and dressing).
  • Collect, document and report ongoing patient care data as directed.
  • Interact with assigned patients, make pertinent observations of patient's behaviors, report and record same, including vital signs and meal consumption.
  • Assist in developing an educational process for the provision and coordination of patient care activities that promote and maintain health, foster self-care and improve outcomes.
  • Report to the RN information regarding the patient's readiness to learn.
  • Plan and initiate patient activities and encourage patient attendance.
  • Facilitate and/or assist with groups as requested.
  • Document observations in group/activity sessions.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with other health care providers to achieve desired outcomes and assure continuous flow of patient care.
  • Communicate pertinent information of actual/potential problems to the professional nurse.
  • Communicate pertinent information at shift reports and during internal and external transfers.
  • Safely escort patients to appropriate departments/activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership by utilizing the behaviors inherent to the role of the mental health assistant.
  • Demonstrate an ability to solve problems utilizing critical thinking skills and seek assistance from immediate supervisor when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of chain of command; refer patient questions/requests/information to appropriate RN/Supervisor.
  • Perform effectively in the role of preceptor to new hires.
  • Assist in the department's compliance with State, JCAHO, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in preparation for continuous survey readiness for inspections and surveys.
  • Adhere to the infection control process, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections.
  • Inventory, order and maintain proper supplies on an assigned unit.
  • Participate in ongoing unit performance improvement activities.
  • Provide for patient safety in compliance with hospital and nursing department policies.
  • Utilize two forms of patient identification before implementing any form of patient care.
  • Assume appropriate team role during code situations or mock codes.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Complete proper collection, identification, labeling and delivery of specimens to the appropriate department.
  • Support limited use of restraints in accordance with established standards and document according to policies.
  • Perform patient observation per unit policy.
  • Keep current required logs and checklists.
  • Perform unit safety checks per unit policy, check patient and visitor belongings for contraband.
  • Understand and utilize principles of non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Attend yearly crisis intervention class.
  • Observe patients for increase in agitation and report to RN for early intervention.
  • Assist as needed in handling, restraining and secluding agitated patients using the least restrictive means.
  • Assist in establishing control in crisis situations.
  • Know how to use the panic button and how to call security for assistance as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of MH/MR commitment process.
  • Evidence understanding of Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Understand and can communicate the differences of a voluntary and involuntary commitment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
