About The Position

The Beyond Seafood Project Lead drives the planning and design process for the Beyond Seafood Campaign, developing their project with an eye toward public engagement at all levels (online, offline, fundraising, etc.) looking to empower people and reach diverse audiences. The Beyond Seafood Project Lead is a key strategic advisor to the Oceans Campaign Director and the Program Director, and will build and task manage multidisciplinary teams made up of campaign, engagement and action specialists. This role works in close coordination with other Project Leaders and the global organization, to make sure Greenpeace's different projects align as one cohesive and impactful program of campaign work. The Beyond Seafood Project Lead is a full-time, hybrid, exempt, benefits-eligible position, preferably based on the East Coast in one of our GPUS-authorized locations (DC, MD, VA, NY, NJ, CT). Candidates based in California will also be considered. This role reports to the Oceans Campaign Director.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years experience in public interest campaigning, with environmental organizations preferred
  • Experience at a people management level
  • Proven experience in directing a project from conception to completion
  • Demonstrated experience in research and writing, public speaking and issue advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action
  • Track record of developing creative campaign content that engages diverse communities and deepens relationships with existing supporters
  • Track record of effective budget management
  • Experience of empowering others in order to build secure, trusting and effective teams
  • Experience navigating issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion and a deep commitment to advancing these values.
  • Experience of working to ensure an organization is an equitable, diverse and inclusive space
  • Excellent communication skills, including spoken and written English and public speaking skills
  • Ability to represent Greenpeace and our work effectively with the media

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and a work plan for ambitious, high impact, and well-researched campaign projects that use the power of people, and have the courage to confront politicians and corporations
  • Maintain clear and sustainable timelines, clear roles and responsibilities (through a DARCI chart) and a strong and positive team culture
  • Ensure the project’s strategy supports Greenpeace’s long-term organizational and campaign goals
  • Identify new opportunities to advance campaign objectives and work with team to adapt plans as needed
  • Ensure team develops a culture of learning and evaluation
  • Task manage a team of staff (up to 12) as agreed with Oceans Campaign Director and GPUS Leadership
  • Line manage 1-4 people including staff development and performance reviews
  • Hire new project staff
  • Make final decisions on all project output, except in specific instances where decisions related to organizational risk will be escalated
  • Identify, delegate and task manage project team members to develop and implement key pieces of work
  • Manage a significant project budget, ensuring all necessary monitoring, evaluation and reporting expectations are met
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Greenpeace colleagues around the world and external stakeholders in relation to your project and ensure the wider org retains and benefits from them
  • Proactively communicate successes and learnings to the entire national and global organization
  • Work with the Development Department to maintain and expand Greenpeace’s relationship with donors
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as organizational or team priorities arise and/or shift.
