About The Position

The BEO Rigging Field Operations Superintendent is based to Bechtel Equipment Operations, Inc. (BEO) and provides operational and technical direction to Bechtel Rigging Superintendents, assigned construction personnel, and craft regarding rigging-related construction processes, procedures, and requirements across the Bechtel project portfolio. As a recognized subject matter expert in crane and rigging supervision and planning, this position serves as a core resource for project crane and rigging organizations, supporting execution from early mobilization through demobilization, and reinforcing consistent application of Bechtel rigging standards globally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or 10+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Preferred 10+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in rigging supervision.
  • Prefer NCCCO certifications (or equivalent), including Rigger Level II, Signal Person, and Crane Operator
  • Prefer a Certified OSHA crane inspector with experience serving as Assembly/Disassembly (A/D) Director for mobile cranes.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver rigging training programs and craft qualification initiatives.
  • Experience working with crane OEMs and heavy lift/heavy transport subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Previous experience as a Lead Rigging Superintendent or Rigging Manager on a heavy industrial direct-hire construction project (LNG, oil/gas, refinery, petrochemical, mining/minerals processing, power generation, or nuclear).
  • Recognized industry expert understanding and experience in the use of heavy lift cranes (lattice boom crawlers, RT-AT telescopic cranes, tower cranes); specialized cranes and alternative heavy lifting systems (gantries, jacking-and-skidding systems, SPMTs); tailing techniques and equipment; rigging hardware and below-the-hook lifting devices; transport/transfer of equipment; marine works; soil mechanics and ground bearing pressure; load distribution systems; and structural design including ASME B30.20 and BTH-1.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B30.5 (Mobile and Locomotive Cranes), B30.9 (Slings), B30.10 (Hooks), B30.20 (Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices), B30.23 (Personnel Lifting Systems), and B30.26 (Rigging Hardware); OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC and Subpart H; and other applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to perform field inspections, including extensive walking on construction sites in varying conditions, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights, on uneven surfaces, and in confined spaces. Some lifting may be required.
  • Must be able to safely enter and exit project sites and use required PPE.
  • Requires frequent domestic travel and potential international travel on short notice to support project and equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ES&H leadership across Bechtel crane and rigging field operations, promoting the Zero Accident Philosophy. Support project safety procedures, including stand-downs, toolbox talks, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and Field-Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) for rigging activities.
  • Ensure crane and rigging operations comply with Bechtel and regional procedures. Serve as a subject matter expert in rigging supervision and planning, offering guidance to project teams and supervision personnel.
  • Support projects by filling temporary Rigging Superintendent or Manager roles when needed. Provide in-person support during early project mobilization, including review of rigging execution plans, mobilization readiness, equipment, and craft qualification programs.
  • Conduct site reviews of crane and rigging operations to identify gaps against Bechtel standards and support corrective actions through to closure. Coordinate with subcontractors on specialized lifting and transport activities, including review of lift plans, method statements, and qualification documentation.
  • Support and strengthen Bechtel’s core group of Rigging Superintendents. Collaborate with projects to source, screen, and assign qualified personnel for rigging supervision and training roles, maintaining a pipeline aligned with project needs.
  • Provide input on staffing decisions, performance reviews, and development of training curricula, qualification frameworks, and craft competency programs. Recommend improvements to policies and procedures impacting the rigging organization and broader community of practice.
  • Engage with industry associations and regulatory bodies to promote safer rigging practices. Stay informed on advancements in lifting equipment, rigging systems, and transport solutions to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Represent Bechtel on industry committees and working groups (e.g., ASME B30, WSTDA, NCCCO, AWRF), as assigned.
