About The Position

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is hiring a Benefits Specialist to join their Human Resources team. This role supports benefits reconciliations, payroll file reviews, ACA eligibility and reporting, HRIS and vendor data integrity, employee benefits counseling, and special projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year of benefits administration or ACA compliance/reporting experience preferred.
  • Experience with benefits accounting processes including reconciliations, billing, and payroll file loads preferred.
  • Knowledge of ACA eligibility, reporting requirements, corrections, and audit support processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working within HRIS, payroll, or benefits systems.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills with the ability to explain HR processes clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Perform benefits accounting activities including reconciliations, discrepancy resolution, and reconciliation reporting updates.
  • Process arrears, refunds, and manual adjustments while identifying and resolving billing issues.
  • Review semi-monthly vendor payroll files and enter adjustments as needed.
  • Resolve demographic and data-integration errors related to vendor and payroll systems.
  • Support research, troubleshooting, reporting, and special projects in collaboration with Benefits leadership.
  • Maintain accurate employee eligibility and benefits records.
  • Determine ACA eligibility and issue health insurance coverage offers.
  • Counsel employees and departments regarding ACA-related questions and compliance requirements.
  • Review measurement-period data and complete related processing activities including offers, terminations, and data loads.
  • Pull and validate monthly ACA reporting data for IT processing.
  • Monitor quality checks, error reports, and reporting corrections.
  • Support year-end ACA processing, audit requests, IRS notifications, and TIN-related employer actions.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Affordable Care Act regulations.
  • Provide benefits counseling and respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits programs and eligibility.
  • Support HR Connect case management through documentation, routing, and follow-up.
  • Provide backup administrative and counseling support to the broader Benefits team as needed.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and documentation updates.
