Requirements

  • BS/BA and 5 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Strong PC proficiency, including Windows, MS Word, Excel, Access, HRIS, and related systems.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations, as well as core principles and practices of benefits programs.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating responsiveness, professionalism, and effective communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative, and drive workflow efficiencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working at a DOE laboratory.
  • Extensive experience communicating benefits information to management, employees, and family members.
  • Hands on experience with benefits and retirement program implementation and administration.
  • Proven success working on complex, multi stakeholder projects.
  • Relevant professional license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reporting and auditing processes that support accurate administration of all benefits programs, including retirement plans.
  • Provide clear, timely benefits information, support, and guidance to employees and third‑party administrators.
  • Maintain and update summary plan documentation to ensure compliance with plan provisions and state and federal regulations.
  • Offer informed recommendations to resolve complex benefits issues, drawing on significant training, experience, and subject‑matter expertise.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve benefits‑related issues, including conducting root cause analysis, recommending remediation, and communicating outcomes to impacted employees.
  • Manage day‑to‑day benefits administration, responding to inquiries from employees, managers, and vendors.
  • Support annual open enrollment activities, including vendor implementation, system updates and testing, communication development, and post‑enrollment audits.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on complex benefits projects; present team findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Work directly with systems teams to support updates, enhancements, and maintenance of benefits systems.
