About The Position

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. DJJ is currently hiring a Benefits Consultant. The role of the Benefits Consultant is to support the agency goal of supporting and maintaining a competent and diverse workforce by administering a broad range of benefits services for new, current and separating employees. The position is responsible for providing relevant employee benefit to include FMLA, Parental Leave, VSDP, LTD, Retirement, WC, Life Insurance, Health, Mental, Financial and retirement planning information for employees to make timely decisions regarding benefit elections. The Benefits Consultant oversees the administration of optional benefits which includes collaborating and being the primary contact with outside vendors and other internal stakeholders, as well as employees. This position will be tasked with analyzing data and producing reports for a variety of purposes including benchmarking and data metrics. The role requires strong communication skills (both verbal and written) to clearly convey information (verbally and in writing) to employees and the ability to interpret information/communication received from employees, team members, vendors and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of policies and practices related to the administration of employee benefits, with ability to analyze, make corrective action, and suggest resolution of complex benefits-related problems.
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation and VSDP program guidelines and experience processing claims.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, CARDINAL HCM and CARDINAL Payroll, SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and managing multiple email boxes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cardinal/HRIS, workers’ comp reporting portal, and VNav.
  • Considerable, progressively responsible experience in administering employee benefits.
