This position works with the Health & Welfare (H&W) recordkeeper for processing new hires, qualified life events, terminations, and on-going administration. It tracks all new hires and qualified life events to ensure elections are entered and dependent supporting documentation is submitted. The role works closely with the vendor to ensure seamless delivery of H&W services to union and non-union employees, and updates the system as necessary. The Benefits Analyst audits exception and enrollment reports to identify and resolve processing and eligibility errors and discrepancies. They are responsible for quality assurance and timely receipt of vendor and payroll interfaces from the H&W recordkeeper. The role prepares a weekly report (pending new hires, life events, dependents turning 19 years or aging out) and distributes it to the HR team. Responsibilities include administrative tasks relating to Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts, Life and AD&D claims, QMCSO and Medicare forms, and age reduction letters. The analyst forwards benefits continuation letters to employees for payment of premiums while on unpaid Leave without Pay. They track receipt of payments, update spreadsheets, deposit checks, reconcile reports, and follow up with HR regarding the collection of employee contributions. The role runs payroll reports for those on leave of absence status, and audits leave start/end dates against payment of employee contributions. They send late payment notifications and terminate coverage for those on unpaid Leave of Absence status who do not pay timely in accordance with policy. The analyst provides contribution updates to the H&W recordkeeper for the continuation of Healthcare Flexible Spending Account during unpaid leave. This position processes vendor premiums monthly using automated reports generated by the H&W system or other internal reports. They work with insurance carriers/third party administrators, account representatives, and the H&W recordkeeper to resolve discrepancies in reports and payments. The analyst tracks payments with accounting and creates internal reports for management. The Benefits Analyst works collaboratively with Sun’s HR Shared Services, Payroll, and HR teams on H&W benefit issues related to claims and eligibility. They research issues with necessary parties in a timely and accurate manner. This role updates internal benefits files and plan information as needed to include union contracts, plan provisions, headcount reports, and premium/employee rate schedules. They provide participant data from enrollment/recordkeeping systems to government agencies/consultants/etc. The analyst participates in open enrollment planning, testing, and dual year administration for union and non-union employee groups. They assist the Benefits team on various projects as necessary. The position focus is Health & Welfare (50% leave administration, 50% general administration) and may assist with Defined Benefit/Defined Contribution administration as needed.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years working in a HR Benefits or Shared Services environment with a corporate employer, insurance carrier, or outsourcing company in benefits administration.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a team-based and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude.
  • Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, accuracy, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of general leave policies, federal and state leave laws, short- and long-term disability, and FMLA.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, Internal Revenue Code Section 125 and other qualified plans.
  • Solid skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and outsourced recordkeeping systems.

  • Work with SAP SuccessFactors, ADP Payroll, WorkForce Software, and SharePoint is preferred.
