•$38,009 - $55,000

About The Position

Benefit Programs Specialist IV is the leadership-level role in the benefit programs occupational group. The employee performs responsible lead work, provides training and guidance to other Benefit Programs Specialists, and supports the supervisor with staff coverage, workload balancing, training, case-file reviews, and backup supervision. The role may include consulting on complex cases and handling sensitive and confidential assignments. The position works independently within established policies, procedures, and guidelines, seeking supervisory assistance for unusually complicated or difficult cases. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, codes, policies, and procedures; civil and Circuit Court procedures; human behavior, social problems and resources; interviewing and counseling techniques; and factors that can create barriers to employment. It also requires skill operating a personal computer and associated office and agency software. Education and experience are the same as those required for Benefit Programs Specialist III, with additional work experience in a leadership role and benefit programs, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. VDSS partners with local departments of social services and community organizations to promote the well-being of children and families across Virginia.
