The Bench Mechanic position is an onsite weekend-shift opportunity intended to train individuals with little or no machining or grinding background to become Certified Operators at Pratt & Whitney. The schedule is Friday through Sunday, three 12-hour shifts, from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The employee learns to perform production operations on aerospace engine components and similar weldments and assemblies. Work includes deburring, blending, polishing, grit blasting, brushing, cleaning, and washing using hand and power tools. The role also involves working from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instructions; checking finished work against specifications with precision measuring instruments; and maintaining machines through required total preventive maintenance. Operator certification enables the employee to accept or reject parts.
