About The Position

The Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst provides clinical supervision to frontline clinicians and consultation for complex clinical intervention, including intrusive behavioural intervention strategies. Services will include assessment, treatment and therapeutic programming, clinical consultation, program evaluation, training, education, and research activities within a variety of settings throughout CHEO’s region of Eastern Ontario including homes, community settings and group homes. Travel, and evening and weekend work should be an expectation of the position. This position is based in the Mental Health Pod with Neurodevelopmental Health.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree of Applied Disabilities Studies, Psychology or in a related field (Essential)
  • Maintain good standing as a Registered Behaviour Analyst with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (Essential)
  • Meet all eligibility requirements for being a listed as a qualified provider on the Ontario Autism Program Provider list as of April 2021 or in the process of obtaining. (Essential)
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification (Essential)
  • Five (5) years recent related experience in a behavioural management consultant position or equivalent experience (e.g., five years recent experience in Applied Behaviour Analysis in community program for persons with a developmental delay). (Essential)
  • Advanced knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis and its application. (Essential)
  • Previous experience providing clinical supervision (Essential)
  • Clinical skills that demonstrate competence in assessment with children, youths and their families. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills. (Essential)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to receive and incorporate feedback. (Essential)
  • Knowledge of community resources for children and youth with special needs. (Essential)
  • Computer literacy with clinical applications (especially Microsoft office, Excel). (Essential)
  • Ability to provide services in a culturally sensitive environment. (Essential)
  • Valid Ontario’s driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to travel from site to site and to multiple community-based visits on a daily basis is required. (Essential)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate therapeutic treatment interventions utilizing evidence-based ABA practices.
  • Ensure that process for evidenced based practice is implemented in all areas of service delivery.
  • Provide consultation services to individuals and groups such as: clients, relatives of clients, professional associations, agency staff, mental health workers, and involved medical providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, committees (internal and external) and initiatives designed to support the clients, families, direct care staff, and community partners.
  • Represent CHEO on internal and external clinical review committees as required in the area of behaviour practices and ABA.
  • Provide clinical oversight and accountability for the delivery of ABA-based service and provide clinical supervision to Behaviour therapists for ABA-Based case conceptualization, assessment, and treatment, in accordance with College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario’s Standards of Professional Conduct, 2024
  • Engage in clinical supervision activities which includes, but is not limited to, describing theoretical orientation for assessment and treatment decisions, reviewing and discussion of written materials, reviewing client progress, data collection and graphing, video and/or in-situ observation, role play, discussion of literature and ethical dilemmas, and providing clinical feedback anchored in Behaviour Therapist’s clinical competencies.
  • Meet with Behaviour Therapists regularly to enable active monitoring of goals and progress concerning each service recipient and provide continuous planning, monitoring and evaluating of clinical practice.
  • Maintain records of clinical supervision activities and contacts with Behaviour Therapists.
  • Develop and provide formal staff training in skill acquisition methodologies and techniques to support problem behaviour (i.e. aggression, self-injury, property destruction)
  • Prepare and maintain formal documentation including but not limited to assessment reports, treatment plans, program plans, guidelines, program review summaries, and discharge summaries, electronic records charting, session progress notes, strategy recommendations, consent forms, supervision review summaries, and email communication with the family and care team (including external providers).
  • As part of clinical supervision, review and co-sign all behaviour analytic documents which may be reasonably relied upon to make a decision affecting client care, rights, and welfare, including but not limited to the documents identified above.
  • Manage own schedule after given assignments by corresponding with families and other professionals to schedule client consultations/ appointments/groups/interpreters and meetings and then booking the appointments in the electronic booking system sending invites and maintaining outlook calendars on a daily basis.
  • Travelling to clients as required.
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • As per the regulation of the practice of Applied Behaviour Analysis and associated Standards of Professional Conduct, 2024, clinical supervision structure must involve the following: Clients receiving supervised services are the supervisor’s clients. All professional responsibilities regarding supervision flow from this fundamental premise Supervisors must assess the knowledge, skills and competence of their supervisees and provide supervision as appropriate to their assessments. Regularly review the list of active clients and actively monitor all matters to determine the optimal frequency of discussion of each client. Maintaining records of clinical supervision activities and contacts with Behaviour Therapists, which must include outlining date and duration of supervision meeting, summary of discussions and directives given to the Behaviour Therapist and the Behaviour Therapist’s strengths and developmental needs. Supervision must be sufficiently intensive to enable active monitoring of goals and progress concerning each service recipient. The expected frequency and duration of supervision meetings will be under the discretion of the supervising Behaviour Analyst, in order to provide continuous planning, monitoring and evaluating of clinical practice, and to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and the Standards of Professional Conduct, 2024.
