About The Position

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of Behavioral Intervention Specialist at PS 76 Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy. This role involves recommending and implementing behavioral interventions, providing coaching to staff, analyzing behavioral data, developing intervention plans, and supporting district initiatives like MTSS/PBIS and IEP development. The specialist will also interface with parents and caregivers, conduct professional development, and respond to student de-escalation needs, interacting with students in a therapeutic and trauma-sensitive manner. The position requires the ability to perform the physical duties associated with the role.

Requirements

  • Certification in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related mental health field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in their certified area.
  • Strong working knowledge of behavioral theory and applied behavior analysis.
  • Understand the characteristics and behaviors associated with disorders.
  • Ability to apply behavioral principles and to handle intense emotional situations.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge and experience with implementing MTSS/PBIS model and systems.
  • Experience with de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and restorative justice/circles.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties associated with this position.

Nice To Haves

  • ABA Therapy certification or Board-Certified Behavior Analyst given preference.
  • An attendance teacher certification, paired with the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, will also be an accepted certification.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend appropriate behavioral interventions, including implementation of skills/strategies/supports supported through a district-appointed crisis management program.
  • Provide job-embedded coaching and modeling for teachers/staff on implementing behavioral supports.
  • Collect, analyze, and progress monitor behavioral data.
  • Develop a system of tracking outcomes to illustrate the impact of interventions.
  • Interface with district staff and parents to address behavior.
  • Assist with the development of a Behavior Intervention Plan.
  • Provide professional development on behavioral interventions and support.
  • Respond to students requiring de-escalation.
  • Interact with students in a therapeutic, respectful, and trauma-sensitive way.
  • Support IEP development.
  • Support district MTSS initiatives.
  • Communicate with parents, families, and caregivers.
  • Complete all related paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and appropriate as assigned by the appropriate administrator or supervisor.
