About The Position

The SUD Behavioral Health Treatment Specialist at the STARLight Center is a full-time position focused on providing comprehensive treatment and support to individuals with substance use disorders. This role involves monitoring client symptoms, coordinating with the treatment team, developing service relationships with clients and their families, and connecting them with community resources. The specialist will provide crisis intervention, contribute to individualized treatment plans, and deliver recovery support services and skill-building in collaboration with therapists. Responsibilities also include attending team meetings, performing administrative tasks, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring confidentiality. The role emphasizes promoting an inclusive work environment and requires flexibility and a positive attitude.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with the substance abusing population
• Three years relevant experience
• Able to demonstrate competencies in basic behavioral health skills, for example: understanding of human behavior, mental illness, psychiatric symptoms, addictions, and impact on functioning and behavior; understanding how to therapeutically engage a person, concepts of recovery/resiliency understanding of the behavioral health system; de-escalation techniques understanding of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
• Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment.
• Effective interpersonal skills; able to speak effectively with individuals and/or groups of people.
• Strong organizational skills; able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
• Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
• Computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
• Able to provide services in a congregate facility which may include multiple levels/floors
• Successfully meet all pre-employment background requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor client symptoms and communicate changes with the treatment team for immediate and appropriate interventions.
• Develop and maintain a service relationship with client, family, and caregivers to provide support.
• Coordinate community resources including school, referral sources, specialized care, medical and dental services, and other necessary linkages.
• Act as an advocate for the client as needed.
• Provide crisis intervention consultation in times of emergencies for coordination and assistance in crisis management and stabilization.
• Review Diagnostic Evaluation and additional assessments to aid in the ongoing development and implementation of a client’s individualized treatment plan (ITP).
• Provide care to clients, addressing co-occurring disorders and coping skills while meeting the intensity of a 3.1 or 3.5 Level of Care per ASAM guidelines.
• Provide recovery support services and skill building in conjunction with the therapist to ensure the client develops prosocial functioning, has a supportive daily structure, builds a positive support system, and has the necessary skills to maintain sobriety within the community.
• Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, including mandatory trainings, and treatment coordination.
• Perform related administrative responsibilities; maintain client information, reports, records, and other documents.
• Respond timely to emails and phone calls.
• Attend and participate in various trainings and meetings.
• Communicate with other agencies, departments, and vendors regarding required paperwork, contract compliance and consult with other county agencies and/or supportive services as necessary.
• Accurately and promptly, document and maintain the confidentiality of client and family interactions including, legal, financial, and clinical documentation within agency guidelines.
• Meet with Supervisor for weekly supervision and consultation.
• Maintain ongoing care coordination with other assigned OhioGuidestone professionals or outside agency professionals assigned to case.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

• Exhibit positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
• Therapeutic Behavioral Service (TBS) and SUD Targeted Case Management service activities include consultation, referral and linkage, interventions using evidence-based techniques, identification of strategies or treatment options, restoration of social skills and daily functioning, crisis prevention and amelioration, assessment and reassessment of needs, and follow up activities.
