The Behavioral Health Patient Care Companion ensures a secure and safe environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazards and observation of the patient. This role provides general patient care duties specific to the patient(s) served as directed by the registered nurse, and performs tasks related to meeting the nutritional needs of the patient. The companion also maintains patient confidentiality, communicates with patients, families, and other health professionals respectfully, and supports patient/family teaching. They contribute to the patient plan of care through documentation and communication of patient needs and outcomes to the health care provider. Additionally, the companion performs tasks related to maintaining the integrity of patient care standards and efficient unit operations, including responding to emergency situations and practicing infection control policies.
