The Patient Care Companion - ED is responsible for ensuring a secure and safe environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazards and patient observation. This role involves continuous patient monitoring, adherence to established policies for precautions and emergency plans, and accompanying assigned patients at all times during transport or movement within the facility. The companion also provides general patient care duties as directed by the registered nurse, including assisting with personal hygiene, ambulation, and ensuring the provision and maintenance of special patient supplies. Additionally, the role involves tasks related to meeting patient nutritional needs, such as preparing trays, assisting with meals, and distributing food. Maintaining patient confidentiality and communicating respectfully with patients, families, and health professionals are key aspects of this position. The companion contributes to the patient plan of care through documentation and by communicating patient needs and observed changes to the healthcare provider. They also act as a patient/family advocate, providing comfort and assistance, and supporting unit operations through adherence to infection control policies and maintaining technical skills.
