As a Behavioral Health Operations Coordinator, you will provide administrative and on-site support for Behavioral Health Access & Bed Management operations across designated emergency departments, hospitals, and behavioral health units. In this role, you will provide clinical supervision, coordinate daily operations, and oversee patient throughput, staffing, and bed management. You will collaborate across departments to support safe and timely patient placements and assist with policy implementation, regulatory compliance, scheduling, budget monitoring, and continuous process improvement. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 5:00 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.

Requirements

  • MA, MS in a healthcare profession, or a Med
  • Five years of relevant work experience
  • Two years in a psychiatric clinical setting
  • Licensed Social Worker [LSW], Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC], Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III [LCDC-III], or Registered Nurse [RN]
  • Competency of patient populations [child/adolescent, adult, geriatric], diversity, social determinants of health, community resources, Ohio Revised Code, DSM/ICD, mental illness, chemical use/abuse, basic medical clearance, healthcare law, other competencies as assigned
  • Ability to communicate across various comprehension levels; young child to technical professionals
  • Strong attention to detail in work process and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on‑site administrative coordinator and resolve urgent operational issues affecting patient flow, safety, and service delivery.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments and units regarding issues related to patient care.
  • Oversee regional bed management to ensure timely, safe, and appropriate patient placements.
  • Provide after‑hours and on‑call operational support when scheduled.
  • Ensure staffing is assigned, balanced and caseloads are monitored
  • Maintain awareness of referral activity, bed availability, admission status, acuity, and boarding times.
  • Communicate real‑time census, acuity, and case updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Under the director of the manager, support shift leads and crisis specialists, including coaching, scheduling, feedback, and evaluations.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and corrective action processes.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative work environment and ongoing staff development.
  • Implement and uphold departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and maintain compliance with privacy standards (HIPAA).
  • Participate in huddles, committees, and improvement initiatives related to throughput and patient safety.
  • Analyze throughput and performance data, identify trends, and implement improvement actions.
  • Promote patient safety goals and assist with incident review and follow‑up.
  • In collaboration with the manager, monitor staffing levels, overtime, and spend to align with budget expectations.
  • Approve operational purchases and resource use within delegated authority.
  • Collaborate with emergency departments, behavioral health units, and other departments to remove barriers to efficient patient flow.
  • Represent the department in meetings and support enterprise‑wide initiatives.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
