About The Position

The Behavioral Health Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides compassionate, hands-on nursing care to patients with acute mental and behavioral health needs in an inpatient behavioral health setting. Working with Registered Nurses and an interdisciplinary care team, the LPN supports patient safety, stabilization, and recovery through medication administration, patient monitoring, behavioral observation, crisis intervention, and care coordination. The role is based at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, and works 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Hold a current and valid state license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technician.
• Have a current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain it.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients with acute mental and behavioral health needs in an inpatient setting.
• Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior, mental status, and safety risks.
• Administer medications as ordered and monitor for side effects.
• Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation to promote unit safety.
• Support admissions, discharges, and transfers, including patient education.
• Collaborate with RNs, providers, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with policy and regulations.
