About The Position

Cornerstone Family Healthcare is recruiting a full-time Behavioral Health Counselor for its Behavioral Health team in Chenango, NY. The role provides behavioral health care to patients and families, including people experiencing mental health or substance use challenges, and contributes to integrated care for the communities Cornerstone serves. The organization is a nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center focused on providing comprehensive primary and preventive care regardless of patients’ ability to pay.

The counselor conducts diagnostic evaluations and psychosocial assessments; provides individual and group psychotherapy; collaborates with patients, families, specialized treatment programs, and department directors; and maintains accurate, timely patient documentation. The role also includes training medical staff, participating in a virtual on-call rotation, covering one late shift weekly, attending staff and committee meetings, contributing to quality improvement, and acting as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.

The stated salary range is $65,000–$82,000 annually, based on credentials, with sign-on and productivity bonuses. The schedule includes one late shift each week, Monday through Wednesday, with one of the listed shift options: 10–6, 11–7, or 12–8.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Nursing.
• Active New York State license as an LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC.
• Compassion, teamwork, and commitment to serving underserved communities.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience preferred.
• Experience with children and adolescents strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic evaluations and psychosocial assessments for patients with mental health or substance use challenges.
• Deliver individual and group psychotherapy to a diverse caseload, including patients with HIV/AIDS, chemical dependency, and other concerns.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and specialized treatment programs to develop treatment plans and monitor progress.
• Work with other department directors to support integrated care.
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation in patient charts.
• Provide in-service training to medical staff on mental health and substance use topics.
• Rotate in a virtual on-call schedule with other counselors.
• Cover one late shift weekly, Monday through Wednesday, with a shift option of 10–6, 11–7, or 12–8.
• Participate in staff and committee meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
