FT or PT - Behavioral Health Counselor (Veterans Program)

About The Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor provides residential support services to veterans in the program. The role provides supportive counseling to veterans in need of crisis intervention and emergency services, helps maintain a safe and well-cared-for residence, and documents service delivery and other pertinent information. Shifts are available full-time Monday through Friday, 3 p.m.–11 p.m.; part-time overnight Saturday and Sunday, 11 p.m.–7 a.m. (16 total hours); and per diem to cover shifts as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mental health or a related discipline; or two years of college plus two years of related work or life experience; or a high school diploma and four years of related experience in homelessness, mental health, recovery services, or veteran services.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

Provide residential support services to veterans in the program.
Provide supportive counseling to veterans who need crisis intervention and emergency services.
Monitor veterans’ housekeeping, maintenance, and upkeep of the residence.
Provide transportation as required.
Participate in maintaining and caring for the facility and ensure the safety of veterans in the program.
Assist with administering drug and alcohol screenings.
Document service delivery and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
Implement fire and life safety standards, including fire drills and fire safety education.
Distribute veteran mail as needed.
Carry out emergency procedures for medical emergencies, crisis intervention, fire or smoke, police emergencies, and AED/first aid situations, in accordance with agency policy and procedures.
Document pertinent information in and review the Communication Log Book, Resident Sign-In Log, Medication Sign-In Log, and Pass Authorization Log; report violations to the Program Coordinator.
Participate in supervision meetings with the Program Coordinator.
Conduct regular checks to ensure the safety and whereabouts of all veterans in the residence.
