About The Position

Alfred J. Thomas - Home for Veterans is seeking a part-time Behavioral Health Counselor to provide residential support services to veterans in the program. This role involves offering counseling, monitoring residents, assisting with daily living, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in Mental Health or a related discipline; or Licensed R.N.; or two years of college plus two years of related work or life experience, or licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN) plus two years of related mental health experience; or a High School diploma and four years of related mental health experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention to veterans as needed.
  • Monitor residents and encourage proper housekeeping and upkeep of the residence.
  • Transport veterans in a company vehicle when necessary.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and secure living environment for all residents.
  • Assist with drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Complete accurate and timely service documentation and clinical records.
  • Assist with fire and life safety procedures, including fire drills and resident education.
  • Distribute resident mail as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, behavioral crises, fire/smoke events, police involvement, and First Aid/AED situations, following agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and review required program logs, including communication, resident sign-in, medication sign-in, and pass authorization logs, and report concerns or policy violations to the Program Coordinator.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with the Program Coordinator.
