About The Position

Bartlett Regional Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Assistant to join their Behavioral Health Outpatient Services team. This position is open until filled. The role involves assuring patient safety and treatment, providing support through one-to-one patient sitting, virtual sitting, and floating to the mental health unit. Key duties include direct patient care, facilitating communication within the healthcare team, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and participating in education and training. Therapeutic interaction with patients is expected at all times. There are two levels: BHA 1 is an entry-level position under close supervision, while BHA 2 functions at an advanced level under general direction, requiring demonstrated skills, knowledge, and competency to advance from BHA 1.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must obtain 10 hours of education related to Mental Health and/or addictions within four (4) months of hire and annually.
  • BHA 1: One year of experience working directly with the public providing a service or six months of experience working with patients in a health care or behavioral health capacity.
  • BHA 2: Minimum of one year of experience as a BHA 1 or similar job position at Bartlett Regional Hospital or other healthcare facility.
  • BHA 2: Must have the skills, knowledge, and competency to advance to BHA 2 from BHA 1.
  • Substitution for experience: A minimum of 12 college credits in Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency can be substituted for the required year of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required if assigned to perform patient transport duties.
  • Reference Mandatory Education for Clinical and Support Staff Policy for most current Certification requirements.
  • All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with individuals who experience mental health, addiction, or behavioral health challenges.
