About The Position

Fairview Range is looking for a dedicated Behavioral Health Assistant for our inpatient Behavioral Health department in Hibbing, MN. As a Behavioral Health Assistant, you will assist in direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse; performs clerical duties and assists with unit maintenance. This position is full time, working 72-80 hours per two weeks. The shift length will be 8-hour rotating day/evening/night shifts. Weekends: undesignated. Fairview Range provides a continuum of mental health services, including inpatient, outpatient, and our Partial Hospitalization Program. Our inpatient Behavioral Health department expanded in 2016 and now includes two inpatient, acute psychiatric units. Both units treat a range of mental health issues in adult patients. The unit has 34 beds between 2 units and a multidisciplinary care team including Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, RNs, LPNs, Unit Assistants, Social Workers, and Mental Health Practitioners. The patient population is adult (ages 18+). Fairview Range is an affiliate of M Health Fairview, a partnership of Fairview Health Services, the University of Minnesota, and M Physicians. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) within 180 Days
  • BCS within 90 Days

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Graduation from a Nursing Assistant program or equivalent experience
  • Previous mental health experience
  • CNA

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conduct room, belonging, and unit searches.
  • Actively participate in management of patient interactions with treatment team collaboration.
  • Perform basic patient daily living routines, unit order, and procedures according to treatment plan.
  • Assist with conducting admission and discharge duties, to include inventory and storing of belongings.
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • 1:1 observation of patients as needed.
  • Assist in obtaining information from the patient about their special care/needs.
  • Identify and promptly report changes in patient's condition.
  • Record vital signs and weight.
  • Set up and monitor meals.
  • Participate as directed in crisis intervention.
  • Participate in groups for patients as able.
