About The Position

Hands of Heartland is expanding its services and is seeking compassionate, caring, and dependable individuals to join their team as Behavioral Support Specialists (BSS). This role involves working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities who may exhibit challenging behaviors, providing support in both home and community settings to help them achieve personal goals and lead fulfilling lives. The position requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, and respect.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
  • Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to pass all registry and background checks.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to handle a variety of situations and personalities.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and protect individual rights.
  • Ability to always project a caring and professional image.
  • Proven skills in communication, observation, problem solving, and time management.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities with behavioral challenges or caring for a person in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Creating a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere for the people supported.
  • Transporting individuals to and from day programs and community outings.
  • Providing services to address the wants and needs of people with developmental disabilities.
  • Supporting personal goals.
  • Teaching daily skills such as household chores, laundry, cleaning, and preparing nutritional meals.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Ensuring groceries, personal care items, and other needed supplies are in stock.
  • Reinforcing therapies, including speech, behavioral support, and physical therapy.
  • Administering medications and other medical treatments as delegated by an HOH nurse.
  • Maintaining knowledge of each person’s specialized needs.
  • Ensuring each individual’s rights are protected and they are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Completing documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including individual plan data, behavior plan data, community integration logs, assessments, individual funds requests, mileage logs, maintenance requests forms, and supply acquisition forms.
  • Keeping the residence (interior and exterior) and resident personal space clean, organized, and tidy.
  • Completing all other duties as assigned.
