About The Position

Discover After School, founded in 2019, is dedicated to empowering children through after-school STEAM exploration. We offer before and after-school programs that combine fun with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) to foster creativity and innovation. Our vision is to expand our reach beyond the 2,000+ students already impacted in Orange County, by opening preschools and building community partnerships. Our mission is to illuminate a world of possibilities for the next generation through STEAM. Our services include before & after school programming, seasonal camps, training & resources, and family & community events.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Child Care Directors Education Credential.
  • Childcare management experience for at least 2 years.
  • Must complete the 40-hour Introductory Child Care Training approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) prior to start date.
  • Must also complete one of the following: Part II “Special Needs Appropriate Practices” or at least 8 hours of training in serving children with disabilities, 10-hour “School-Age Appropriate Practices” module, or 5-hour “Understanding Developmentally Appropriate Practices” and 5-hour “School-Age Appropriate Practices” courses.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Screening.
  • Satisfactory Drug Screening.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate at a high level to both children and school administration.
  • Ability to problem solve and critically think through daily situations.
  • Be accepting of ALL children, parents, and staff without regard to race, creed, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation.
  • Report to all scheduled shifts on time.
  • Attend all meetings pertinent to this position.
  • Childcare management experience for at least 2 years.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with children.
  • Must possess a valid Child Care Directors Education Credential
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who already possess these certifications are strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual, with proficiency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Prefer degree from an accredited College

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the Before & After School programs meet all program guidelines.
  • Supervise staff and maintain a high level of communication between school administration and area managers.
  • Plan and organize a structured program consisting of educational and recreational activities according to the age group.
  • Exhibit positive role model qualities in all aspects.
  • Provide excellent service to all students, families, co-workers, and school administration.
  • Maintain accurate records pertaining to billing, attendance, staff/child health and safety.
  • Supervise and train staff to ensure adequate supervision of children and effective implementation of scheduled activities.
  • Meet the physical, emotional and educational needs of the children in their care.
  • Work in a team environment, build and maintain healthy, cooperative relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, administration and students.
  • Model positive behavior and educate children in a manner which contributes to mature and responsible behavior.
  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning and maintaining of facilities, equipment, and all areas used.
  • Be knowledgeable and adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed or requested.
