About The Position

Beauticians will hold a valid license issued by the Cosmetology/Barbering Examination Board. Beautician skills within the realm of a long term/transitional care facility are designed to meet the needs of dignity, self esteem, physical appearance and hair cleanliness. Beauty care must be provided in accordance with the facility policies, procedures and consistent with state and federal laws and regulations.

Requirements

Valid license issued by the Cosmetology/Barbering Examination Board.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid License by the Cosmetology/ Barbering Examination Board.
Must have freedom from illegal use of drugs, and freedom from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24 hour residential care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents. Examples of stresses include, but are not limited to; shift rotation, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in the nursing home, death, and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.
Essential physical functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and sitting.
Stooping, bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands may be required as descended in the essential physical demands of this position.
Must have the ability to be physically active, requiring bending, stretching, reaching, pushing, and considerable walking.

Responsibilities

Posts all required licenses, permits and notices in a conspicuous spot in the beauty shop.
Take responsibility for your own professional practice, conduct and compliance with the regulations of the Cosmetology/Barber Examination Board.
Report any maintenance of supplies and equipment failure to the Activity Manager.
Take inventory of supplies and submit a report on a monthly basis.
Unpack, inspect and take inventory of incoming supplies and place in adequate storage area provided.
Maintain a safe environment with poisonous substances supervised or stored in a locked cabinet or closet.
Maintain records of haircuts, colors and permanents of each resident and provide weekly consult to Activity Manager for a hair care schedule for the upcoming week.
Become accustomed to residents names, personal and physical needs to accommodate individualized hair care and scalp care.
Follow Physicians orders regarding special shampoos and hair care.
Be responsible for compliance with the sanitation and safety precautions mentioned in the current Sanitation and Safety register provided by the Barbering and Cosmetology Examination Board.
Maintain the beauty shop in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
Loose hair shall be removed regularly and placed in a closed container.
Be familiar with the layout of the facility in order to go to the residents room and provide a physical escort to the beauty shop.
Carries out all duties in accordance with Markesan Resident Homes Mission Statement and philosophy.

Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of facility.
Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instructions in case of emergency.
Sufficient mobility, and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times and to assist, or move residents of facility out of danger in case of emergency.
Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with facility policies on attendance and punctuality and dress code.
Able to arrive and to begin work on time and to report for duty as scheduled on all shifts.
An ability to comply with facility policies and procedures.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties within allotted time.
Able to respond to change productively.
