About The Position

Performs a variety of routine tasks related to visitor safety at the swim beach at Aurora Reservoir. Applicant must be able to work weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Responsible for the safety of visitors to the swim beach; performs tasks to maintain safety and cleanliness of swim beach and immediate area, including providing patron information, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, providing first aid, working with other emergency personnel, and performing daily area and equipment maintenance; guards work from the beach, guards stands and floating platforms, rescue boards, and kayaks. Responsible for regular checks of the area throughout the day for hazardous objects or situations, to include setting and adjusting floating lane markers and buoys; keeps and maintains accurate accident and incident records and performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must have Lifeguard certification
Must be 16 years of age
Ability to successfully complete a 100 yards continuous swim (100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing, 100 yards of breaststroke, and 100 yards of either front crawl or breast stroke)
Ability to successfully complete a 20 yards swim, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve 10 pound object, swim 20 yards, and exit the water within 1 minute, 40 seconds
Current and valid driver’s license
Current Lifeguard Training Certificate
Must be able to successfully complete a physical fitness and lifeguard skill practical exam at the start and periodically throughout the summer
Current standard first aid and CPR certification or equivalent program certification

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
