About The Position

Performs a variety of duties related to the operation and management of City indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. Responsibilities include overseeing daily facility maintenance, ensuring the safety of all pool users, and providing general supervision and support to staff. Duties may involve teaching and supervising swimming lessons, completing daily operational reports, leading staff trainings, conducting basic pool maintenance, and scheduling, mentoring, and leading part time and seasonal staff. This role requires flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Principles and practices of supervision, training, and evaluation.
  • Preparing written reports and projects
  • Operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
  • Analyze mechanical pool problems and make minor repairs
  • Perform routine mechanical and chemical pool maintenance
  • Identify and correct facility safety hazards
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates
  • Work under minimal supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and patrons

  • Sufficient strength to make rescues and lift 50 lbs.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid certifications are required.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Previous supervisory experience in aquatics
  • Previous pool maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Aquatics Facility Operator and Certified Pool Operator desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively staff and support all aquatic areas by scheduling and assigning lifeguards, swim instructors, seasonal operations staff, and step into operational roles as needed to maintain coverage
  • Responsible for taking action and addressing concerns in a proactive manner in order to avoid potential problems or larger incidents.
  • Maintain a safe and well-regulated environment by conducting regular emergency drills, evaluating staff performance, perform safety and equipment checks, enforcing pool policies and patron conduct rules, and assisting with patron concerns and problem-solving.
  • Complete and maintain a variety of reports, forms, files, and other records as required in an accurate and timely manner, i.e., daily records of water chemistry, attendance, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Conduct routine upkeep of pool areas and aquatic amenities, maintaining equipment and water chemistry to comply with state and local regulations.
  • Conduct daily walk-through of facility to ensure appropriate appearance; document needed repairs and maintenance; maintain accurate inventory of first-aid, chemical, operating and program supplies; assist Recreation Coordinator with purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Help prepare seasonal facilities for opening and closing, and assist with the oversight of summer operations, including concessions, guest services, and boat handling.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned.
